The 31-Day Challenge supports the Children’s Fund, a flexible funding resource at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP).
As one of the region’s largest charities focused on children’s health, CHOP relies on donations to deliver breakthrough care. We continually assess the health and wellness needs of the communities we serve, match it against our current programs, and determine how we can close any gaps. The Children’s Fund is a critical tool in our quest for community wellness.
Adaptive Rapid Response
Because the Children’s Fund is not limited to a specific use, CHOP can draw upon it whenever there is a need for quick action:
- A discovery that needs to be fast-tracked
- New technology that can potentially transform patient care or research
- Innovations to improve patient support service
- The hire of a leading expert at CHOP
Expanded Support Services
Past examples of programs and initiatives supported by unrestricted donations to the Children’s Fund:
- Music and pet therapy, as well as other Child Life activities
- Free language services to families, including in-person, telephonic and video interpreting, and document translation
- CHOP Mothers’ Milk Bank, an on-site resource at CHOP to provide pasteurized donor human milk to hospitalized infants
Other CHOP Programs Supported by the Challenge
While the Children’s Fund is the featured beneficiary for the 31-Day Challenge, you can choose to have your fundraising dollars support pediatric research, patient care or a specific area of the hospital (such as the examples listed below). Directed donations must be received by June 30, 2024.
Allergy and Immunology
The Division of Allergy and Immunology is the largest program in the world dedicated to providing specialized clinical programs to children with allergic or immunologic disorders.
Child Life
Child Life Services at CHOP was one of the first in the nation to recognize the therapeutic value of play for hospitalized children.
Critical Care
Experienced critical care experts treat children with life-threatening illnesses and injuries in CHOP’s intensive care units.
Endocrinology
CHOP evaluates and provides advanced treatment options to children with a broad range of endocrine disorders.
Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment
The Center for Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment cares for women carrying babies with known birth defects from diagnosis in utero to treatment before or after birth.
Gender and Sexuality Development Clinic
CHOP offers psychosocial and medical support for gender-variant, gender expansive and transgender children and youth up to age 21 and their families.
Integrative Health
CHOP offers a broad umbrella of integrative health programs that combine traditional and alternative medicine to treat the whole child – mind, body and soul.
Nephrology
The Division of Nephrology partners with families to provide comprehensive medical consultations and evaluations for children with all forms of kidney disease.
Newborn/Infant Intensive Care Unit
The multidisciplinary team provides expert care for critically ill newborns and premature infants and offers seamless access to specialty services.
Neurology
Neurological disorders can affect how your child’s brain is growing and developing. At CHOP, we offer advanced treatment for all neurological conditions.
Palliative Care and Bereavement
CHOP offers psychological, social and spiritual services to support children with life-limiting illnesses and their families.
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
Using the most advanced tools and techniques, plastic and reconstructive surgeons provide children with the individualized care they need.
Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine
CHOP’s respiratory and sleep experts provide multidisciplinary care for children with both short-term and chronic breathing problems.
Sickle Cell Center
The Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center has pioneered advances to dramatically improve the lives of children with sickle cell disease — and is on the verge of a potential cure.
