Embracing the Challenge
EJ is always up for a challenge – whether it’s dunking basketballs on the court or capturing the queen on a chess board. Now, the fun-loving 10-year-old with a mega-watt smile has a challenge for you: Join him in the Daisy Days 31-Day Challenge.
EJ and his team, the Hematology Warriors, will walk, run or jog during May to raise funds to support sickle cell research and care at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP).
Diagnosed with sickle cell disease as a baby, EJ has been treated at CHOP throughout his life. He refused to let his chronic disorder stop him from pursuing the things he loves. Along with basketball and chess, EJ enjoys football, video games and riding his bike around his neighborhood. He’s also a huge fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and the Philadelphia 76ers.
EJ recently answered a few questions about his experience with CHOP and why he’s participating in the 31-Day Challenge.
Question: What is your experience with CHOP?
Answer: I go to CHOP because I have sickle cell anemia.
Question: What do you appreciate most about your relationship with CHOP?
Answer: I love all of my doctors and nurses because they are always very nice and caring.
Question: What motivates you to participate in the 31-Day Challenge?
Answer: I’ve decided to do the 31-Day Challenge because I think that I can complete the most miles out of everyone! Watch out for our team, the Hematology Warriors. You all are not ready for us!
